DYSON OFFICE OF DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Dyson ODI is part of the SC Johnson College of Business Office of Diversity and Inclusion comprised of professionals in Dyson, Nolan, and Johnson. We work with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and corporate partners to support and strengthen Cornell’s core values as a university founded to be a place where “…any person can find instruction in any study…” Cornell values diversity and inclusion, and we strive to be a welcoming, caring, and equitable community.

Preparing Business Students from Everywhere to Lead Anywhere

A world-class business education means preparing students to lead with empathy, welcome diverse perspectives, and collaborate with colleagues from all backgrounds. Guided by the motto “Our Business Is a Better World,” Dyson ODI helps prepare graduates to address society’s biggest challenges in today’s diverse and interconnected world through curricular, co-curricular, and community impact initiatives.

More information about the Office of Diversity & Inclusion can be found on the Cornell Dyson website.

ENRICHMENT

One of our goals is for all Dyson students to be well supported and positioned for academic, personal, social, and career success, and for all students to have a sense of belonging at Dyson.

The Accelerator Scholars program is a collaborative initiative with generous support from our founding corporate partner, KKR. The Accelerator Scholars program provides enhanced support, resources, and opportunities for first-generation Dyson and Nolan undergraduate students to further their success at Cornell.

ENGAGEMENT

Another one of our goals is for students to cultivate teamwork and interpersonal relationships with peers, engage in the Dyson community in meaningful ways, contribute to a culture of inclusion and collective leadership within Dyson, and develop critical thinking and communication skills necessary to be successful in a diverse workforce and global community.

We host many co-curricular events including lunch & learns, professional development workshops, industry treks to NYC, alumni and corporate guest speakers, and programs with our Faculty Fellows for Inclusive Excellence.

Dyson ODI supports and advises several student-led organizations including the Dyson Diversity Council, A Seat at the Table, BlackGen Capital, Women Leaders of Color, Diversity and Inclusion in Real Estate, Association of Latino Professionals for America, Diverse Leaders for Tomorrow, and Diversity in Cornell Economics.

EDUCATION

AEM 3015 Inclusive Leadership for Organizational Impact. This course fulfills the CALS diversity requirement and the Dyson Grand Challenges senior capstone project requirement (AEM 3000 is a pre-requisite if taking AEM 3015 to fulfill your Grand Challenges project course requirement).

BELONGING AT DYSON

Belonging at Cornell is a framework designed to continue the progress towards making Cornell a more diverse and inclusive environment. Its mission is to focus our collective efforts on creating a campus community where individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences can both contribute and thrive. The intent of Belonging at Cornell is to improve the overall experience of faculty, staff, and students, not to solve every diversity or inclusion challenge, nor eliminate the effects of respectful, but challenging discourse. Belonging at Cornell is about fostering respect and appreciation for difference, having a shared purpose, and being a part of a community, while simultaneously being valued and appreciated for the uniqueness that each person brings to the community.

At Dyson, we foster a sense of belonging for everyone in our community through enrichment, engagement, and educational opportunities and support systems. Belonging is what unlocks the power and value of diversity. At Dyson, we:

  • Create intentional connections;
  • Help build trusting relationships;
  • Invite diverse opinions and perspectives;
  • Engage in opportunities that strengthen our community.

I joined the Dyson School in 2018 as the founding Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. I've been at Cornell since 2007 serving in various capacities in Student and Campus Life. Courses I've taught in Dyson include AEM 2015 The Business Case for Diversity and Inclusion, AEM 3015 Inclusive Leadership for Organizational Impact, AEM 4000 Grand Challenges, and AEM 4001 Grand Challenges Abroad. I live in Ithaca with my husband, two kids who are in middle school, and two cats. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, live music, reading, running, hiking, and vegan cooking.

I’m a first-generation student with a background in wealth management and marketing. I am passionate about financial markets, so I’ll be pursuing a career in capital markets after graduation. I also love discovering new cultures through food and travel—last spring I studied abroad in Milan and explored much of Europe, even making it to Egypt. As a PA, I’m excited to welcome new students and help them feel at home in Dyson. Whether you’d like to talk about careers, coursework, or just need to rant, feel free to reach out! Fun Fact: I ran my first marathon while studying abroad in Milan.

Hello, my name is Nicholas Blasi and I am a first-gen hispanic student studying Applied Economics & Management with hopes of going into investment banking. I ultimately hope to develop my financial exposure to help give back to younger students and those who need support with financial literacy. As a PA, I would be happy to help students learn more about Cornell/Dyson, give guidance for club recruitment or classes, or just be a friendly face to talk to whenever it is needed. Fun Fact: I have met over 25+ widely known celebrities while working at a Grocery Store in LA.

Minor: Public Policy
The culmination of my studies highlights the intersection of my various interests regarding business and politics. My passions stem from wanting to better understand people and how their experiences have shaped their perspectives and, in turn, their needs. This is important to me as a future businesswoman who plans to focus on bettering aspects of the triple bottom line, and as a future lawmaker who wants to fully understand my constituents' perspectives to create policies that will positively impact them.

I am a first-gen student hoping to concentrate in finance with an interest in wealth management. One of my passions is spreading financial literacy and bridging the wealth gap in minority communities. As a PA, I love meeting new students and learning more about my peers’ backgrounds and interests. Fun Fact: I love trying new foods and cooking meals with my friends.

Hi everyone! I’m a first-gen college student interested in sustainability consulting. I have a passion for education and mentoring others. I adore the Dyson community and am so thankful for the organizations I’ve been a part of during my time here. Cornell has so many resources, and I’m happy to help anyone find the specific resources they’re interested in! Reach out at any time with questions or just to chat. Fun Fact: I play 3 instruments (4 if you count my middle school percussion experience!)
