SPRING 2021 STUDENT SERVICES UPDATES

Welcome to spring 2021! I hope you and your families are healthy and that you had a moment to step away and recharge from what we all know was a challenging fall. I wanted to reach out with a few updates and reminders as start into a new semester. Please reach out if you have any questions or feedback on how we can better support our students this spring.

Faculty Advising Updates
We will be updated the faculty advising lists in the next few weeks. While we are creating those official connections for students, we are going to continue to explore new ideas for faculty and students to develop more impactful and less administrative-minded relationships outside the classroom. In fall, the Dyson faculty hosted small group meet ups for new students and we hope to facilitate additional opportunities this spring. I will be in touch later when it is allowable to host small group gatherings.

We strongly encourage students to reach out to their faculty advisor or other Dyson faculty to discuss information about potential concentrations.

Dyson Office of Student Services
The Dyson Office of Student Services team continues to manage and advise students on policies, graduation requirements, academic support, and connections to resources. Our office is open normal hours and meeting individually with students via zoom daily.

We will also be hosting drop-in hours Tuesday, February 2nd through Thursday, February 11th. Students can also make appointments with the Student Services, Career, and Diversity and Inclusion team members as well as link to forms and other resources through the Dyson Launchpad.

There are posters as well as advertisements on the monitors throughout Warren Hall that include information for students on how to contact our office. Please do not hesitate to direct as student our way.

Students of Concern
As in any semester, please reach out to the team in the Dyson Office of Student Services with any concerns no matter how small they may seem as soon as possible. We are happy to check in with the student to make sure they are aware of the support and resources available to them. You are also welcome to reach out to us if you are working with a non-Dyson student who may need some support. We can help make that connection for the student as well.

Student Privacy: FERPA
Cornell University complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the federal law that covers educational records held by the university.

Communicating Student Information with TAs
Please be very cautious of the information you share with TAs about student health issues. No details regarding a student’s health should be disclosed to their TA or other students for any reason. Thank you for helping to protect the privacy of all our students. Reach out to the Dyson Office of Student Services if you have questions regarding what information you can share.

TA Training
All undergraduate are required to complete the new Dyson TA Training. They are exempt if they attended the training in fall 2020. All new TAs are expected to attend the spring TA training session on Wednesday, February 10th from 6-7pm.
